What is a parable?

A parable is a word picture which uses an image or story to illustrate a truth or teach a lesson. Jesus taught people about God and His Kingdom using ordinary items and examples from their daily life in ancient Palestine (mustard seeds, fig trees, wineskins, oil lamps, wedding feasts, stewards, and more). Today we have to do a little digging to understand the social customs of their day, but the truths that Jesus taught are timeless. Come along as we discover how God is at work today in the everyday situations of life.
