A Delightful Find

16 February 2012 3 Comments

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

Such a simple Scripture but one that excites me every time I read it. “Delight” in this verse is a verb meaning to take great pleasure (verb). Then I checked out “delight” as a noun and found its meaning to be a high degree of gratification; joy; extreme satisfaction (noun). It is one of my favorite words!

But today, as I was studying the meaning of this word, I discovered that a synonym for delight is manna! Can you believe that??? This was the food that was supplied to the Israelites in the wilderness. Another definition of manna is: divinely supplied spiritual nourishment; a usually sudden and unexpected source of gratification, pleasure, or gain.

So I’m real excited because now I see that if I delight myself in the Lord (meaning reading His Word, taking great pleasure in His Ways, praising Him for who He is, praying for Him to change me)…He will give me the desires of my heart. He changes us in divine ways, He nourishes us divinely and then suddenly we are changed and have unexpected joy even in the worst of circumstances because we have gone to THE SOURCE of spiritual nourishment! I love that!

All that being said…HE desires us to want more of Him…so DELIGHT in HIM, my friend, and HE will kindle a fire and passion in you that can’t be tamed!

This is my mother in law’s favorite verse so I am going to share this with her also. Thank you for encouraging us to really study what we read in God’s word.
