Waiting

27 November 2009 No Comment

Numbers 21:4 – “But the people grew impatient on the way…” Has this ever described you? We are an impatient people. We want it – whatever “it’ may be – right now. But something God has been so deeply impressing on my heart is that the journey, at the very least, is just as important as the destination – and many times, it’s more important.

How are you waiting? Impatiently or passionately? With frustration or expectation? Full of faith or full of anxiety? Trusting or doubting? With grumbling or gratitude?

What are you waiting for? All the projects around the house to be done? The perfect job? The perfect spouse? The perfect church? Someone to admit he or she was wrong? Appreciation perhaps? Tomorrow?

Many times what we are waiting, hoping or longing for will determine how well we wait. “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith” (Hebs.12:2). Is the pursuit of Christ your ultimate goal? Is being “transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Rms.12:2) what you set your heart and your mind on, what you pray for and surrender to each day? Is HE the prize you’re reaching for? Is being like Him your dream fulfilled, your ultimate reward? Because if He is, then every moment of the waiting is purposeful – every moment is sovereignly orchestrated by Him in order to bring about the greatest “arrival” we can imagine!

With that in mind, waiting is the most exciting and life-changing thing I have ever done! “Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.” Ps. 27:14
