Freedom

11 December 2008 No Comment

OK…well, this is the first time I have ever blogged…not even sure if there are “rules” or some kind of unwritten understanding as to what is acceptable and what isnt’. But…I’ve never been one to care all that much about what’s kosher or politically correct…so, I’m just going to write, I guess…and see where it goes.

Last night, I was up kind of late with Jody, my husband. I’m reading a book called “Our Godly Heritage.” I didn’t have to read far at all to begin weeping…we’ve strayed a long, long way in this country. I am so deeply grieved. I would love to post the whole book! It makes me angry that so few actually read for themselves these days. Each would be amazed and utterly shocked to read the direct quotes from our great founding fathers — they are steeped in the truth of the Holy Scriptures. Eternal truth. In the name of Jesus Christ. Unabashedly. The U.S. Supreme Court made rulings in and for the name of Jesus Christ!! I could go on and on and on…

So…in light of the name of my blog…”The Pursuit”…here is my question for anyone who may care to read or respond. At what point to we stop pursuing the freedom for which we have been set free (Gal. 5:1)? The Lord has been so dramatically and deeply changing my heart over this last year or so. We’re talking SERIOUS change. I am becoming more and more passionate about freedom. Because the thing is…nothing is secular. It is ALL sacred. There is no such thing as “just” spiritual freedom. Freedom is FREEDOM. Spiritual freedom, of course…economic freedom, political freedom, etc. etc. Do you see? There is no point where we, as Christ-followers can say…here is where I draw the line in fighting and living for freedom. It is for complete freedom that we have been set free!

So…if you are reading this…you have been appointed to live in this day, this hour. What are you doing to pursue freedom — for yourself, your family, your community, your state, this great nation, and the world? This is our watch! What are we doing?! I, for one, am no longer able to sit back and allow our freedoms to be taken away one by one by one…in the name of tolerance and relativism and political correctness. It all makes me sick. But the thing is…I’ve been cautious. Because I NEVER want to be more passionate about anything than I am about Jesus. I want to be consumed by my love for and commitment to Him. But, as I said, He is showing me more and more that when I allow my passion for Him to consume, He consumes me with the things He is passionate about.

FREEDOM. I’m fighting for it. For me, my kids, this nation. In the name of Christ. Without shame. He’s worthy to receive that for which He died…freedom for all who will call on Him.
