Pastor Hummer Ochim and family - Kampala, Uganda

In January 2011, a mission team of eleven people (representing 5 different churches, including The Summit) headed to Uganda. The team worked with two local pastors–Pastor Paul Ngolobe and his family in Busia and Pastor Hummer Ochim and his family in Kampala. In both Busia and Kampala, the team loved on and taught the children, worked to help equip and train pastors, provided medical care for the widows and orphans, and worked on construction projects that improved their facilities. The team also hosted evangelistic outreaches each evening while in Busia.

Ray of Hope is the ministry of Pastor Hummer Ochim in Kampala, Uganda. Pastor Hummer’s desire to train widows in skills that will allow them to make a living wage. The widows then house local orphans to create a family environment for nurturing and growing, which benefits both the widows and the orphans. Ray of Hope also includes a school for the orphans, as well as a church. There are several ways that you can help support Ray of Hope, Pastor Hummer’s family, the school, the teachers, the widows, and the orphans. Contact Debbie Utz (Debbie@SummitMadison.org) to learn more about sponsorship opportunities for students, orphans, and teachers.

The team also brought home suitcases full of necklaces (which are made by the students at Ray of Hope) back with them from Uganda. Through Ray of Hope, the necklaces are sold and the money is sent back to Uganda for the student’s school expenses.

Mark DeCourcey, pastor of The Summit, returned to Kampala, Uganda in May 2011 where he was a guest speaker at a Youth Summit in partnership with Pastor Hummer Ochim. Also, Mark met with a number of pastors/church planters while in Uganda to provide encouragement and training. Mark traveled on to Kenya, where he made a number of new church planter connections. Please be praying for these bold men of God who are beginning churches to reach their communities with the love of Christ.

It is a joy and blessing to be able to come alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ in Uganda to see the Kingdom of God advanced! Our God is a God of relationships and partnerships. None of us is called to work alone! The mission possibilities are endless–and we are willing to do whatever we can to partner with Paul and Hummer in Uganda to the glory of God!
